Biography
Having being called “South Africa’s favourite leading lady”, Carly is widely known for her versatility as a singer and actress. Her passion for the performing arts led her to study Musical Theatre at the Guildford School of Acting in the UK.
Returning to her native South Africa in 2003, she embarked on a career that would afford her the opportunity of playing dynamic and diverse roles in some of the most exciting cities and prestigious stages of the world.
She has appeared in Janice Honeyman’s Cinderella, Deon Opperman’s The Sound of Music, as a featured vocalist in Life@Centrestage, and as Frenchy in Grease. Carly worked as Assistant Director to Ian Von Memerty on The Buddy Holly Story in which she also played the role of Vi. Playing Ozzy Ozbourne in the highly successful Asia/Pacific tour of We Will Rock You, Carly received wide critical acclaim on the stages of Auckland, Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok.
Returning from Asia, Carly wowed audiences in the unique and original Knights of Music on the Lyric Theatre Stage. She had the privilege of playing another of Ben Elton’s leading women, in the all South African cast - and entirely original production of The Boys In The Photograph (for which she was nominated for a Naledi award for Best Actress in A Muiscal) followed immediately by the smash hit musical Mamma Mia! alternating the role of Donna. Recent stage appearances include the sozzled vamp, Angela Forward, in the farce Funny Business, the trophy wife Sally Webster in The Wedding Party, and Raspberry Rose in the Joburg Theatre’s Jack & the Beanstalk. After spending a year training on roller skates, she was nominated for the Best Actress in A Musical Naledi Award for her portrayal of Pearl in Starlight Express.
Her recent TV credits include Dr. Sue Jackson in SABC 1’s Generations and a Journalist on 90 Plein Street. She has lent her face and voice to a number of Television and Radio Commercials and is highly sought-after for corporate events throughout the country.
